Bruckheimer loves him the racist superplots. More movies would benefit from the R rating–this being one. Maybe teens didn’t swear in the ’70s, but it fights against credulity when you sense a character needs and wants to say “fuck” but isn’t because they want to sell more tickets to children. Do parents really need the MPAA and their meandering, esoteric ratings system? Back to the film: So I know I’m childish and homophobic but it felt like there would be boys kissing in almost every other scene–the scenes that did have boys kissing were great otherwise. People sure acted like it was 1850 with the whole black people are actually monkeys bit. Depressing and probably accurate. Hayden Penitentiary plays an obnoxious, precocious 9-year-old that unfortunately manages to dodge a brick in the middle act. I not so secretly hope that her star eclipses Anakin Skywalker guy so that my wife’s gender won’t be so confusing for people (we get mail to Mr. Hayden Wartes all the time). Who are these data entry people that just take a swing at gender anyway. And while I’m on the topic, people also like to guess dog gender much too casually: “Oh what a cute puppy, what’s his name?” “She is a full grown dog, she has a hot pink leash, and like all species, half of them are female, her name is Sadie and are you a boy or a girl?”
